Online classes
Asia’s Center for TESOL Online (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) conducts intensive courses leading to a TESOL certificate. This certificate is supported (not accredited) by Cornerstone University of Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA.
120 Hour Full Certificate $300
A twelve week course including about 3 weeks of practice teaching.
Expect to spend about 15 hours a week on your own time including the required weekly Zoom meetings (3 hours)
This course includes theory, teaching demonstrations, class discussions, three “in-class” teaching requirements where the student will video themselves teaching a lesson to a group of 4-6 students and upload it to YouTube for the instructors and classmates to provide encouragement and feedback. During the 12 weeks, each student will teach ten 1-hour lessons to non-English speakers, video it, and save it on YouTube once again and upload it for the class and instructors to watch. They will also observe and provide feedback to 10 hours of their classmates teaching.
Qualifications:
Participants should be high school graduates (some grade 11 students have been accepted).
Course participants whose first language is not English must pass a formal English proficiency exam and submit their score, or a two-hour English proficiency exam administered by ACT and score 550 or higher. (500-550 = probation, 450-500 = audit). The exam schedule is arranged on a case by case basis.. “Native speakers'' are exempted from the exam. Applicants are also screened for goals that are compatible with Asia’s Center for TESOL goals.
Class Time:
Students have a lot of flexibility in completing the online modules, but there are due dates, and there are required Zoom meetings with the whole class. If a student is not able to make 100% of the Zoom meetings, unless there is an instructor-approved emergency, they will not receive the certificate of completion. Zoom meetings are required class time.
Supplies:
The student will need:
A computer (online classes and Zoom meetings do not work well on a cellphone.
Printer availability
Good internet for Zoom meetings
Poster paper and markers for written instructions when they are practice teaching
A group of 5-8 people they can practice teach on (native English Speakers or non-native speakers)
A group of non-native speakers to teach ten 1-hour lessons (for the full certificate only in Part 2)

Agreement with TESOL students and ASEAN Center for TESOL
In order to run this online class successfully, there needs to be an understanding of the expectations between the students and the class administrators. Please confirm that you have read and agree with the following:
I understand that I need access to a computer and a printer in order to complete this class well. A cell phone is not enough to access the assignments and documents required.
I understand that I will need to get all the work completed each week in order to complete this class in the timeline provided, and not impede my classmates from completing the required assignments such as several group projects.
I understand that there will be 1 Zoom meetings a week of 3 hours each that are required attendance to complete this certification.
I understand that I will find my own practicum class to do the 10 hours of practice teaching by the end of this class. This practicum class will have a minimum of 6 students that are non-English speakers. They cannot be native speakers! They can be in-person or online.
I also understand that I need a class of 6 students to practice on before my practicum. These students can be
English speakers or the same as the students in my practicum, and they can be in-person or online.
I understand that if I am choosing to do my practicum teaching online that I will need an app such as Zoom (but not necessarily Zoom) that has the capacity to record the complete lesson up to and over 1 hour and not less than that.
I understand that I will be joining a messenger group with the class in order to communicate quickly with both my instructors and my classmates, probably WhatsApp.
I also understand that the course fees need to be paid in full before the first day of class in order to receive the class entry code, and that there is no refund.
